Strong Women: paining 1, beginning of project

Above is the right section of a oil stick painting I did during a recent Drawing Marathon, taught by Carole Robb, about New York City icons. It is connected to the a piece I'm still working on about the Statue of Liberty and will likely be all one piece when finished. The picture above is a teaser for you all. Enjoy! ;)

This year is looking promising and I am really happy to be here. It's been crazy and busy but great! I'm finally feeling like I belong here and I'm working my ass off. I have so many ideas and there isn't enough time in the day to try them all out! Not a bad problem to have if you ask me. The 13 hr days combining drawing classes, art history, painting, critiques, work, and research are rigorous but incredibly rewarding. I am in Philip Guston's old studio this year and it is a freakin' dream. Here is a pic of it from the fire escape lookin' in...

For anyone interested in planning ahead and coming to my big MFA Thesis Exhibition at the end of this school year, the opening will be May 6, 2009 at the studio school. It will be an amazing show and I will be in the company of some incredible artist's, a couple of whom are in my links list on this blog(Maia and Sam). If you want to take a look at the work and artists that were in last year's exhibition, you can follow this link: http://www.nyss.org/mfa2008/index.html

Also, if you want to hear a bootleg of the first song I sang at 169 Bar last spring, you can go to my Music Page on myspace. My tech savvy friend Adam spliced it from a video for me(thanks again, man. You rule.). On the music side of things, I am doing a lot of listening and working on some songwriting in the studio as well as painting. My plan is to start performing original music after I graduate next May.

I will have more to update soon. In the meantime, I'm getting over a cold -- so I'm sending you all kinds of germy love(the best kind) from here in Brooklyn. Ha!

Back In NYC!

Hey folks!

Here are some pics from the Red Dress Films project I'm working on with Bill Hayward. I started out just being one of the models/actresses in a red dress but I ended up doing some set design and may possibly work on some music for it too. I will keep you all updated on the progress of the project. All the paintings you see below are mine and all of these photos were shot by Bill.

It's finally starting to cool down a little here in NY! It's a gorgeous Summer here but the air is as stinky and thick as a filthy wet sock most days. So I am able to appreciate nature most from open door of my refrigerator. That or with my feet firmly planted in the Atlantic on the shore of Coney Island!

I am finally settling in after my trip to Portland. I took some long awaited travels to John Day and a painting Marathon(part of my school's Summer Program) on Governor's Island.

The art show I had at my temporary studio space in Audiocinema was a blast! Thank you all who came out to support me! Because of that show, I now have 3 drawings in Portland Community College's (Rock Creek Campus) art collection! All of the proceeds of the show made it possible for me return to NY to finish out my degree. This would not have been possible otherwise, so I am very grateful. Thank you all. <3

LOVE.

Catch up time!!!

Hi Everyone!

Finally, an easy way I can keep in touch with you all and share recent work, news and info for any upcoming events! Here are some pictures and links posted below to catch you all up...

Here is the Opera Poster image I designed for Portland State University's 2007 Spring Opera Cosi Fan Tutte:

Here is a picture of the last drawing I did in Graham Nickson's Drawing Marathon in January of 2008:

And here is a recent oil painting:

In addition to painting a ton every week in the studio, the most recent news is that I've been studying voice with Mark Schnaible and working with some awesome players for my singing gig at 169 Bar on Thursday, March 6th! For those of you here in NY, its at 11pm, there's a $10 cover and I'll be joined by Bryan Teoh on the guitar and Philip Voldman at the piano. We'll be torchin' it up and doing some low key rock covers, a couple of other cool songs and an opera aria to end the night. I can't wait! And we're planning another gig later in the month, so check in here or on my music Myspace page for further show dates. And yes, original music is in the making. :)

I miss you all and Portland VERY much.

LOVE.
